Yoo Young-jin rallies from 0-2 down to oust Lee Young-han at ASL Season 22

Yoo Young-jin is the first player to book himself a spot in the Google Play ASL Season 22 semi-finals after he came back from 0-2 down to see off "Typhoon Zerg" Lee Young-han. He won three straight games to complete a reverse sweep, with the best-of-five wrapping up on Sept. 21 at the FreecUP Studio in Daechi-dong.

Lee built his entire series around Mutalisks and punished Yoo's early bunker play in Game 1 before tightening the timing even further in Game 2, both times swarming down Yoo's Barracks before the Terran could stabilize.

Yoo's response defined the back half of the series. He stopped chasing the early aggression, dug into Missile Turret counts and Marine-Medic positioning, and let Lee's flying army break itself against a wall it couldn't crack.

How the series turned

The turning point came in Game 3. Down 0-2 and facing elimination and a bit of a mini crisis, Yoo, who would have expected to win the game before it started, abandoned any early push and threw the kitchen sink into turret count, placement, and keeping his Marine-Medic force purely defensive. His tactic worked, and he was able to break the mutalisk pattern that had cost him the first two games.

Why the sweep matters

Lee, on the other hand, stuck with the same Mutalisk-heavy game plan across all five maps, a decision that proved to be his undoing once Yoo adjusted. Stubbornness? Maybe, especially when it became clear it was no longer working. By Game 4 and Game 5, Yoo was playing around Lee's build, holding a straightforward Lair-into-Lurker rush on Aiolos with three bunkers.

A 0-2 reverse sweep in a best-of-five is so rare in any StarCraft league that it’s worth talking about, and it says something about how quickly Yoo diagnosed and countered such a one-dimensional, single-strategy opponent under elimination pressure.

The win keeps Yoo Young-jin alive in one of the scene's major offline tournaments and puts him just one round from the ASL Season 22 final. Lee Young-han, on the other hand, goes home.

Yoo Young-jin will face either Lee Jae-ho or Kim Jung-woo next.
