The coveted and long-awaited third installment in EA’s reboot Star Wars: Battlefront series, has just gotten the green light, according to reports.
Polygon shares that Battlefront 3 is in development with DICE and Respawn being behind it. DICE is actually the developer of both the 2015 Battlefront game and the 2017 sequel, so they have strong familiarity with the brand. Meanwhile, Respawn is best known for creating Apex Legends. They are reportedly teaming up to bring up the third game together.
The multiplayer lobbies on Star Wars Battlefront 2 have remained very active despite the game nearing its 10th anniversary. The lack of a sequel kept fans invested in the game despite no real content updates for over six years.
Many fans remember that Battlefront 2 got its final update in 2020, as DICE and EA chose to focus on Battlefield 2042 instead. But the community has stayed strong, and even on various occasions, have millions of players jump back in to convince EA to make the third, it seems those wishes have finally been granted.
These are all rumors, of course. But the existence of a third Battlefront game is pretty clear despite EA not specifically confirming the game. It would be no surprise to see Battlefront 2 lobbies explode again now that there is hope for a sequel.
The original Star Wars: Battlefront games were from the early 2000s, and while the reboot games are separate, they both share one thing in common; never making it past two installments.
With millions of gamers back in the saddle for Battlefront 2, the wait until the official announcement and release itself can’t come soon enough. This is exciting news for any Star Wars fan or veterans of the franchise, both the original and reboots.
