Karmine Corp, MKOI, G2 in the LEC Summer 2026 playoffs: LoL battles for Worlds

The playoff stage of the League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC) Summer 2026 event runs from Sept. 5 to Sept. 20. Matches happen in three different locations.

The opening battles take place in Madrid, Spain: the upper semifinals and final. It’s a roadtrip event.

Two elimination quarterfinals are played in the Riot Games Studio in Berlin, Germany — the usual place for the LEC competition.

The regional finals head to Nice, France: from the elimination semifinal to the grand final.

The excitement of the regional competition has some extra spice from the LoL Worlds 2026 qualification. Reaching the top 3 means advancing to the most important League of Legends event of the year.

• Sept. 5–6: Upper semifinals and upper final.
• Sept. 11–12: Elimination quarterfinals (lower-bracket round 1).

All teams qualified to League of Legends 2026 World Championship

Teams in the playoffs and their regular season runs

G2 Esports are traditionally the top dogs in European League of Legends. This year, G2 reached the top 2 at the First Stand Tournament and the top 4 at the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI 2026).

The LEC Summer 2026 regular season wasn’t too cheerful for G2 players. They finished third in this stage, with losses to Karmine Corp, Fnatic, and GIANTX.

Karmine Corp finished the regular season with no losses at all. KC were 10th at MSI 2026, but the team reached the grand final at the League of Legends Esports World Cup 2026 event.

Movistar KOI were 3rd in the previous regional seasons: LEC 2026 Versus and LEC 2026 Spring. This time, MKOI barely reached the playoffs with five losses.

In 2025, KOI players shined on the international LoL esports scene with top 8 placements at MSI and EWC. They were in the top 10 at Worlds 2025.

Underdog surprises

Team Vitality finished second in the regional season. The organization has had only one showing at LoL international events, and that’s Worlds 2018. Vitality’s regional standings this year were within the top 6.

GIANTX reached the top 4 in the previous regional tournaments. The organization signed two new players in June: it’s some hope for the first-ever international event for GIANTX.

The team competes in the upper brackets of the LEC Summer 2026 playoffs. Their regular season wins include matches against G2 and Fnatic.

NAVI returned to LoL esports in 2025. The organization reached the top 6 in the previous LEC seasons of 2026.

During the Summer 2026 regional season, NAVI enjoyed some crucial wins, including against Fnatic and GIANTX.

The League of Legends World Championship 2026 (Worlds 2026) takes place in the United States from Oct. 15 to Nov. 14.

European teams will face the tournament favorites from Korea and China, including back-to-back winners T1, MSI 2026 champions HLE, and the First Stand 2026 winners BLG.
